CRL CRRLL x JUST CALL ME CARL: Engineer, producer, DJ, and certified Red Bull Sound Select artist. CRL CRRLL has performed at the SXSW Fader Fort and worked along side artist like Anderson .Paak, Sango, Tokimonsta, and Jamie XX. That's just the beginning.
Denver native CRL CRLL is one of UU5280's artists to watch while you can still catch him playing local shows. CRL is diversifying the playing field and making major waves in the Denver music scene. I've had the opportunity to hangout with the Denver DJ/Producer a handful of times over the past few months to pick his brain on the local music scene, his influences, and beyond.
"A mixture of electronic soul, it's groovy in some aspects, a little more electronic in others, but it all has a soulful element. The music I DJ is a whole different thing; I like to jump around."
CRLL let us in on his musical influences, the sounds that shaped his identity as a performer and producer. He rattled off a handful of his favorites like Stevie Wonder, The Gap Band and Funkadelic. He was sure to separate his classics from his newer music library, a pallet comprised of the likes of Anderson .Paak & Childish Gambino, a sort of Future Funk sound.
While chatting it up with Carl, he gave us his thoughts on the constant evolving Denver music scene.“I think it’s funny that all these cool spots in Denver are popping, but to [natives] these spots have always been popping. Denver is hella musical, there has always been a huge Indie and Jazz scene, full of great artists and musicians. It's not like we are lacking [musicians], it's just that our stories aren't told as much [compared to] the bigger cities. I love Denver."
Colorado's population is growing whether we like it or not and it doesn't look like it's going to slow down. Looking at it from a local standpoint, Carl was clear in his thoughts, looking to the future success and prosperity of our booming scene. "We don't need an another Amazon,we need a RED or a Universal. We need something that's going to keep our creative scene staying popping. I know they will come to Denver"
As conversation shifted back to his goals in the upcoming years, Carl gave an honest answer, "I have a ton of goals to complete." Having recently launched an independent record label: Fasor Records, Carl plans to release multiple upcoming projects through the label, “as well as looking into eventually signing artists for now he’s building the labels brand.”." Dedicated to his craft, he's a man on a mission, it's no question he's had things planned for a while. It was no surprise to me, he's even thought about people he wants to work with. So when the question finally came up Carl, without hesitation, "Leon Bridges, John Legend, Anderson .Paak, and Ravyn Lenae."
Carl is one artist I highly suggest you listen to. If you live in the Denver Metro area, do yourself a favor and go to a CRL CRRLL event. It's a non-stop party, full of good vibes and iconic melodies.
Carl is on a mission and you can't stop him.
