I Like You by Elder Grown [Music Video]

I Like You is an upbeat, lively song you could find yourself humming to on a sunny Colorado afternoon hanging out with friends, doing a whole lot of nothing. Elder Grown's care-free spirit is highlighted with impromptu dancing and a cute pup helping out on drums, what more could you ask for?

The song starts out pretty minimalistic with a bass line, riddled with lo-fi vocals, creating a driving force for a great sounding verse. However when the chorus hits us, the energy comes in stronger and faster with an edge like a blade. The vocals quickly flip to a pop-rock style and flow effortlessly along with the melody.

This music video is one of the best I’ve seen, one where I can really feel like I’m in the moment. I really enjoy the way this video is composed, shifting between seemingly “more produced” sections, followed by heavy DIY sections. What I mean is, in the beginning of the video when the camera comes in, it’s a first-person handheld camera view. This makes me, as the listener, feel like I’m more involved, even if I don’t listen to this band regularly, I am involved in everything they're presenting to me. The same can be said about the part during the chorus where the members are switching instruments and outfits each shot, it made me laugh and now I can’t stop singing “I Like You” so I would say mission accomplished in my books.

I feel like there is one section that gets a little more production value than the rest and that’s when the saxophone solo kicks in, the camera turns to a dark background with bright background lights, focus shifts to the sax player killing a solo and getting down. I thought the shots that got more production were still in theme and tied in very well, none the less. The video provides great humor and shows the band enjoying themselves. Overall this music video is a well crafted visual accompaniment to the song, you can almost feel yourself dancing along to it as it goes on. I promise, this will get stuck in your head.
